Five
original pieces artfully performed by twelve members
of Dance Augusta
“Symphony
13” A neo-classical gem depicting the magical
transformation of young girls into the loveliness of
womanhood. This piece was the Colton’s first ballet
chosen for Regional Dance America’s Gala in 1968.
“Gift
to be Simple” Members of the Shaker community
come together to perform for outside guests (“The
World”) at meeting halls. As the dancing progresses,
“The Spirit” often appears and transports
the dancers to higher realms of movement beyond their
structured formations.
“Grand
Faux Pas” A whimsical romp featuring a charming
cleaning lady and her partner, the janitor, who perform
their own version of the Grand Pas de Deux!
“Back
to GA” A contemporary piece set to the lively
music of Allison Krause; it was first performed on the
Emerging Choreographers’ program at the Southeastern
Regional Dance Festival in Memphis, TN in 1998. Tammy
Adams Westafer was awarded the “Monticello”
award for best female emerging choreographer.
“Between
Before and After” Peter Powlus’ latest work
features three movements evoking an abstract, yet emotional
homage to the spaces “between” music. Thoughtful
and simple, performed in bare feet, Powlus’ piece
leaves the audience with a sense of peaceful resolution.
